Tayside Battle of the Badges 2024
On the 26th of May we had an extraordinary day filled with warmth, laughter, and lots and lots of energy! We had been tirelessly preparing for the last 12 weeks for our very first Battle of the Badges held at the Brechin City Football Club. The excitement leading up to the event was amazing and little did we know, it would exceed all of our expectations.
The morning began with torrential rain, but that didn’t ruin the mood as we saw the buzz of excitement from our volunteers and participants as they arrived at the venue. Despite the looming clouds, spirits were high, fuelled by determination to make a difference in the lives of local children in Tayside.
At game time the weather faired up slightly and the atmosphere was electric as the match between Team Fire and Team Police commenced. Cheers and chants filled the air, echoing the support of mascots who stood proudly by their teams’ side. With every goal scored and every tackle made, the passion got louder.
In the end, it was Team Fire who emerged victorious, claiming the 2024 trophy with a 4-0 victory. Their triumph was not just a testament to their skills on the field but a symbol of the collective effort that defined the day.
Our mascots, ranging from the age of one to the spirited age of twelve, stole the show with their infectious enthusiasm and dedication. They tirelessly fundraised, crafted vibrant banners and served as massive support throughout the event. Their presence reminded us of the resilience and strength that lies within every child.
But perhaps the most remarkable moment of all was when we announced the total funds raised – an astounding £8,043.65! This staggering amount will go on to provide vital support for families, enhance bereavement services and create child-friendly environments in healthcare facilities across Tayside.
As the sun began to set on this unforgettable day, we couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with gratitude. The outpouring of support from the local community, the selfless dedication of our volunteers and the spirit of our participants had made this event a resounding success.
Looking ahead, we are filled with hope and excitement for the future. This event was just the beginning of our journey to make a lasting impact on the lives of children in Tayside. With plans already underway for next year’s event, we are eager to continue spreading joy & hope, to those who need it most.
