Help Build a Lasting Legacy at the Highland Children’s Unit

This year marks a special milestone for the Highland Children’s Unit at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness as the much-loved unit celebrates its 10th anniversary — a decade of delivering outstanding care and support to babies, children and families from across the North of Scotland.

For ten years, the unit has been a place of hope during some of the most difficult moments a family can face. Behind every hospital stay is a child needing comfort, parents searching for reassurance, and families travelling long distances to be together when it matters most. That is why The Archie Foundation’s Wall of Support campaign is so important.

The Wall of Support gives local people, businesses, clubs and organisations the opportunity to sponsor a personalised brick for £100.

Each brick becomes part of a lasting display within the Highland Children’s Unit — a visible symbol of community support for children receiving care at Raigmore Hospital.

More importantly, every brick sold directly helps The Archie Foundation continue its vital work supporting babies, children and families across the Highlands and Islands, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.

If 100 bricks are sold this year, the campaign will raise an incredible £10,000.

That £10,000 could help provide emergency support to families facing financial hardship while their child is in hospital. It could fund accommodation, meals, travel costs, toiletries or clothing for parents making unexpected journeys to be by their child’s bedside. It could also help create child-friendly environments that ease anxiety and bring comfort during difficult times.

The funding would also help support the Archie Child Bereavement Service, which provides compassionate support to children, young people and families coping with the death of a loved one. Bereavement can have a profound impact on families, and access to specialist emotional support can make an enormous difference during the darkest of times. Through counselling, guidance and tailored family support, the service helps families across the north navigate grief and begin to rebuild their lives.

The Archie Foundation has long recognised that caring for a sick child means supporting the whole family. The charity regularly assists families who travel significant distances to access specialist care at Raigmore Hospital, often at short notice and under stressful circumstances.

The Wall of Support is therefore about much more than fundraising. It is about showing families they are not alone.

It is also a chance to celebrate the remarkable journey of the Highland Children’s Unit itself. The Archie Foundation first came to the Highlands in 2011, partnering with the Inverness Courier to raise funds to improve children’s healthcare in the region. That public support eventually led to the opening of the Highland Children’s Unit in 2016, creating a modern, welcoming environment designed specifically for young patients and their families.

Now, as the unit reaches its tenth anniversary year, the community once again has the opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

Whether you are a family wanting to say thank you, a business looking to support a local cause, or an individual hoping to leave a positive mark, sponsoring a brick is a simple but powerful gesture. Your name, or the name of a loved one, team or organisation, will become part of a permanent tribute to community kindness and compassion.

In a region where families can face long journeys for treatment and additional pressures simply because of geography, The Archie Foundation plays an essential role. Their work helps ensure that children and families receive not only medical care, but emotional and practical support too.

A single £100 brick may seem small on its own, but together 100 bricks could create something extraordinary: £10,000 that will directly benefit children and families when they need it most.

As the Highland Children’s Unit celebrates ten years of caring for the youngest patients in the north, there has never been a better time to get involved.
