Dr Grant Rodney

Grant joined as a trustee in March 2025 after recently retiring from NHS Tayside after 29 years as consultant anaesthetist.

Dr Rodney’s practice included both adults and children.

He was Clinical lead for Children’s Anaesthesia throughout his career and Clinical Lead for Children’s surgery for more than 20 years.  During this period he oversaw the development of Children’s surgical services which included major changes culminating in the completion of a twin operating theatre and wards complex, a major capitol development which was supported and underpinned by the Archie Foundation.

He initiated the original contacts with the Archie Foundation in 2011, which led to the establishment of a partnership with NHS Tayside, which was formalised in 2014. This set in motion a fundraising project for Archie in Tayside, underpinned by the successful Our Wullie bucket trail in 2016, and ultimately a £2 million fundraising contribution.

Dr Rodney grew up and undertook undergraduate medical training in South Africa. Throughout his clinical career, these links continued, by delivering anaesthesia for cleft and airway surgery work in a number of African countries, and also teaching and training anaesthesia care providers. This has led to an understanding of the importance and value of Children’s health and of the links between poverty, deprivation, social circumstances, and children’s health and development.

Dr Rodney looks forward to contributing to the Archie Foundation in future years and to supporting links to community, public health and all aspects of children’s wellbeing and mental health in particular.
