The NHS provides excellent care and treatment, free at the point of delivery, but the expectation is that the patient can and will travel as required and as frequently as required to access it. Poverty poses one of the greatest challenges and barriers to achieving The Archie Foundation’s vision – that all children in the regions we support will have equal access to world-class healthcare and bereavement support.
Unexpected or urgent hospital admissions, including ongoing treatment, can put immense strain on household budgets with too many families forced to make impossible decisions. Archie’s Emergency Grants can help in these situations, covering travel costs, providing accommodation, essential clothing and toiletries and sometimes even cash to help struggling families make ends meet.
Our Emergency Grants and Financial Support for families are, we believe, the most important of all the support and services offered by The Archie Foundation, because they provide a direct means of enabling struggling families to access the healthcare and/or bereavement support they need.
“When my daughter was very ill, we were airlifted from Orkney to RACH.
We came with nothing and The Archie Foundation were able to provide us with an emergency grant to pay for the essentials. It really helped us and allowed us to focus on being there for Molly.”
