Bringing Smiles to Ninewells A&E with Toy Donations
At The Archie Foundation, our vision is that all children in our local areas will have equal access to world-class healthcare and bereavement support, delivered in a child-appropriate environment and manner. Recently, we took a significant step towards this goal by delivering toys to the Ninewells Accident & Emergency Unit. This is part of our ongoing efforts to bring comfort and joy to young patients during their hospital stay, especially during sudden or unexpected admissions.
The Importance of Toy Donations
Toys play a crucial role in a child’s hospital experience. Our dedicated play staff carefully select age and stage-appropriate toys and activities for the Toy Boxes. These toys serve multiple purposes:
- Distraction and Entertainment: Toys help to distract children from the stress and anxiety of being in the hospital.
- Educational Tools: They assist children in understanding their treatment and what it will involve, making the medical process less intimidating.
- Rewards for Bravery: Toys are often given as rewards for bravery during difficult appointments or procedures, helping to encourage and comfort the young patients.
We have also introduced specialist toy boxes that contain braille books, games, and other inclusive and accessible resources. These specialist toys ensure that all children, regardless of their abilities, have access to engaging and suitable activities.
