Beck’s Story

Beck was born at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital on 20th June 2023. However, little Beck was born with Gastroschisis and now only has 18% of his small intestine – also known as Short Gut Syndrome. This meant he also spent time within the Neonatal Unit which helps babies when they are born too sick or too soon.

Shortly after, he was then transferred from the Neonatal Unit to Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. He then spent a long 6 and a half months before he was finally discharged in January this year.

Beck is now just over 1 year old and is full of life! He has a central line and receives his nutrition via TPN for 16 hours every day.

Archie were able to be there for Beck and his parents, including around Christmas time when the Panto and Santa came to visit the ward while Beck was there, making their Christmas a little bit more special whilst still being at RACH.

The play team at RACH were able to arrange special activities that Beck could take part in, particularly during Halloween when they did some ‘Bumkin’ painting! Beck’s grandfather also said that Beck enjoyed listening to the music lady when she was on the ward. His grandfather also said that “The Archie Foundation helped to make a very stressful and worrying time a little easier and we, as a family, will be eternally grateful.”

We are able to fund different activities on the ward to make babies and children’s time spent in the hospital just that little bit easier – it is all thanks to our wonderful supporters and donors that we can continue to fund activities. We are here to help local babies, children and families within our local community, and we are so glad to hear we could make Beck’s time in hospital a little bit better for him and his parents.
