ARCHIE’S Garden Trail

Event start date: 10 Jul 2020

Lets spread a little cheer by rekindling memories of a very different summer. ARCHIE’s “Garden Trail” is a campaign where you are invited to purchase, paint and place a miniature Oor Wullie sculpture, with the aim of creating a home-grown Garden Trail. In addition to raising much needed funds we hope it will also help fill the void left by the cancellation of cultural and artistic events and activities as a result of the pandemic.

This time last year Oor Wullie’s BIG Bucket Trail was in full swing. Run in partnership with Edinburgh and Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charities, OWBBT saw droves of people hit the streets to snap selfies with the popular painted sculptures of Scotland’s comic national hero. 200 statues were placed all over Scotland for you to find. We saw thousands of people visit each uniquely painted sculpture then when they were auctioned and sold in September, we made over £1.5 million to support sick children all over the country.

Now it’s your turn to own and paint one of your very own as we are hoping to build on the community spirit of togetherness witnessed in recent months and to rekindle some of the excitement and fun of last summer’s Trail. Simply…

2. Paint it with your very own design
3. Place it in your garden or window so people can see your artwork
4. Take a photo and #ArchiesGardenTrail so we can see your photos and feature them on our website!

You can also “pay it forward” by purchasing a Paint Your Own Oor Wullie sculpture for a child in the hospital, to help alleviate any anxiety as well as developing their art skills. The ARCHIE Foundation funds art therapy sessions, lead by local artist Fiona Chance of Createwithus, who regularly visits RACH to work with young patients.

Fiona said: “Being in hospital can be a very scary and stressful experience for a child and their families. Providing creative activities has important wide ranging benefits. Art is not only a valuable distraction from pain but it is also a familiar, calming activity. Art allows children to have some control over their situations letting them express themselves. Getting creative in hospital is therapeutic and can aid recovery.”

You can be part of supporting babies, children and families when they need it most. We can’t wait to see all of the amazing designs!
